2022 project

MnDOT will reconstruct Hwy 15 from Willow Creek Park, south of the railroad tracks, to Hwy 55 in Kimball, Stearns County. The 2022 project will require a detour.

Summary of work

  • Reconstruct the road surface, curbs/gutters
  • Update or add sidewalk and pedestrian approaches
    • Extend sidewalk south of Linden Ave. to Willow Creek Park; north of Spruce Ave. E to Hwy 55
  • Upgrade underground storm sewer and other utilities
  • Install overhead street lighting

Impacts

2022 plans, detour

Motorists: DETOUR - Hwy 15/Hwy 24/Main St. to close and detour to through traffic in Kimball between Hwy 55 and Willow Creek Rd. in Kimball, Stearns County. Detour uses Hwy 55 to Watkins, Meeker Co. Rd. 17 and Hwy 24 back to Hwy 15 (about six miles south of Kimball). Detour plan map, PDF

Pedestrians: Sidewalk closures with detours, follow signs.

Kimball open: Access will be maintained and open to businesses, visitors and residents along Hwy 15, however expect gravel surfaces and use of other accesses (alley, side street, temporary walkway or side/back entrance).

Work Zone: Hwy 15 will be an active work zone through Kimball. Follow road signs when navigating through town. Plan on closures, flaggers, trucks and equipment, workers and closed off areas to work beneath the road.
