Lane closures planned on southeast Minnesota highways for striping work

ROCHESTER, Minn. – Motorists will encounter lane closures beginning today on several highways in southeast Minnesota as crews begin road striping work, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

Crews are on Interstate 90 in the eastbound lanes near Albert Lea and Freeborn County Road 46. One lane will remain open during the work, while the other lane is closed to paint the stripes. Work is expected to continue through May 8.

On Monday, May 4, motorists will have lane closures on Interstate 35 northbound from I-90 to just north of Hwy 30. One lane will remain open while the other lane striping is painted.

After that, crews will be doing nighttime work on I-90 in Austin and near La Crescent where exit lanes are marked and in need of repainting.

MnDOT road work has been identified as a critical service in Gov. Tim Walz’s Stay at Home executive order. Following guidance from state and federal health officials, and to prevent further spread of COVID-19, crews will maintain social distancing practices while working.

MnDOT urges motorists to always be attentive, drive with caution, slow down in work zones and never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones. For traffic and travel information in Minnesota, visit 511mn.org, call 5-1-1 or log on to mndot.gov.
