Current traffic impacts

Motorists at the Hwy 63 Red Wing Bridge will be stopped for approximately 15 minutes during the afternoon of July 1 while crews detonate explosive charges to demolish pier 2 of the old Red Wing Bridge.

Traffic will be stopped on land and water for approximately 15 minutes early afternoon, Wednesday, July 1, and then resume once all is clear.

Hwy 61 motorists can expect new lane closures by July 2 as crews continue final grading and improvement work on the highway entering into Red Wing near the new bridge.

Grading work will be from the Hwy 63 buttonhook ramp into downtown Red Wing. The lane closures will switch from the current closures. Northbound lanes will be closed. Traffic will be shifted to single lanes in each direction in the southbound lanes. Work should to be complete in early August.

Highway 61 in downtown Red Wing will be detoured.

  • Hwy 61 is reduced to a single lane of traffic in each direction through summer 2020
  • Traffic on 825th Street is detoured through 2020

Visualizations

The preferred alternative for replacing the Hwy 63 bridges over the Mississippi River and Hwy 61, along with realigning the approach roadways in Minnesota and Wisconsin has been determined. The visual quality process is complete and visualizations of two bridges and approach roadways have been developed.
