Detour change for U.S. Highway 212 southeast of Montevideo

WILLMAR, Minn. – (noon) The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) and the Minnesota State Patrol closed U.S. Highway 212 southeast of Montevideo on March 28, 2019, between Chippewa County Road 16 and Yellow Medicine County Road 7 due to flooding.

The original detour route via Wegdahl Corner has been discontinued due to changing conditions and potential flooding concerns. MnDOT advises motorists to use the new detour route: U.S. Highway 212 west to U.S. Highway 59 south to Clarkfield, followed by Highway 67 west toward Granite Falls to reconnect with U.S. Highway 212.

This segment of U.S. Highway 212 will remain closed until further notice.

When a road is closed it is illegal to travel in that area. Motorists can be fined up to $1,000 and/or 90 days in jail. In addition, if travelers need to be rescued from a closed road, other expenses and penalties will apply.
