Stone Arch Bridge closure in Minneapolis begins April 15

ROSEVILLE, Minn. – Pedestrians and bicyclists will encounter a long-term partial closure of the historic Stone Arch Bridge in Minneapolis starting Monday, April 15 until fall 2025 when the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) begins making preservation repairs.
Starting at 5 a.m. on April 15, the St. Anthony Main side of the bridge will be closed through spring 2025 to keep the public and construction crews safe during the work.

Pedestrians and bicyclists can bypass the closure to cross the river using the new protected pathways on the Highway 65/Third Avenue Bridge.
The downtown side of the bridge will be open until spring 2025.

Pedestrians and bicyclists can walk or bike to the middle of the bridge and turn around at the closure point. Work on the downtown side of the bridge is anticipated to occur spring through fall 2025.

All construction activities and traffic impacts are weather and schedule permitting and subject to change.

Starting in spring 2024, crews will begin repairing the Stone Arch Bridge spanning the Mississippi River on the edge of downtown Minneapolis. Crews will repair and replace stone, replace the mortar on the entire bridge, and make other repairs as needed. Stone repair and mortar replacement will slow deterioration and improve the condition of the bridge. Construction is anticipated to be complete by spring 2026.
