40th Avenue West bridge over I-35 in Duluth to remain closed

DULUTH, Minn. –The Minnesota Department of Transportation has closed the 40th Avenue West bridge over I-35 in Duluth due to damage sustained by a truck hitting the bridge. Motorists on northbound I-35 should expect single lane closures through tomorrow, April 12, for continued inspections. Repairs to the bridge will be completed as soon as possible, but the bridge is to remain closed for an extended period of time.

A signed detour is now in place. Traffic exiting from northbound I-35 will be directed to continue on Oneota St to 37 ½ Ave W and then follow W Michigan St. and W Superior St back to 40th Ave W.

Traffic coming on 40th Ave W will be notified that there is no access to northbound I-35.  Signage will direct motorists to take southbound I-35 and use the Central Ave exit to turn around.
