Hwy 169 closes from Aitkin to Hassman, work resumes April 22

Detour through McGregor until mid-October

BAXTER, Minn. –  Those who travel on Highway 169/210 between Aitkin and Hassman should plan for delays as crews begin the final year of reconstruction Monday, April 22, reports the Minnesota Department of Transportation. The project will require segments of road closures with detours.
Here’s what to expect:
Aitkin to Hassman, April 22 to mid-October

  • Detour through McGregor—Crews will first prepare work areas and set up the detour route, then close and reconstruct Highway 169/210 between Aitkin County Road 12 and Highway 210 in Hassman. Motorists will follow a signed detour that uses County Road 12 (400th Avenue) Aitkin, Highway 47, County Road 4 (Dam Lake Street), Highway 65 McGregor and Highway 210.

Aitkin, mid-May to mid-July

  • Detour in Aitkin: Highway 169/210 will close between the Ripple River bridge and County Road 12 (400th Avenue). Motorists will follow a detour along Highway 169 (Minnesota Avenue), Highway 47 (Fourth Street SE) and County Road 12 (400th Avenue).

Hassman, Late July to early September

  • Detour through Palisade: Crews will close and reconstruct the Highway 169 and 210 intersection. Motorists will follow a detour that uses Highway 210, County Road 5 (Nature Avenue) and County Road 3 (480th Street).

Access will be open and maintained to those who live, work or visit within the closed work zone. Expect changes to access, gravel or grooved road surfaces, flaggers, periodic stops and alternate one-way traffic. Please slow down, follow construction signs through the work zone and stay out of barricaded areas.

Summer recreational travel is right around the corner. Those who travel through the work area should plan ahead and be prepared for delays, especially at peak travel times.

When complete this fall, travelers will benefit from a wider, smoother and stronger road surface; improved safety, access and traffic flow; and updated drainage.
