Lane closures, traffic slowdowns Jan. 27 on Highway 19 west of Northfield
NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Motorists who travel on Highway 19 between Northfield and Interstate 35 during the morning hours on Jan. 27 may encounter lane closures and traffic slowdowns while crews conduct pavement tests to prepare for a future construction project, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
Lane closures will occur from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Monday, Jan. 27. Brief traffic delays may occur at times because of the daily volume of vehicles that travel through this intersection. Work will take place in driving lanes in both directions. The lane closures will move along with the workers as they complete their testing work.
Construction is scheduled in 2027 for this stretch of highway.
Safety in work zones
Motorists should always be prepared to encounter traffic changes when approaching work zones including lane closures, lane shifts, uneven road surfaces, slow-moving heavy equipment and slow or stopped traffic. To keep everyone safe, drivers must:
- Obey posted speed limits. The fine for speeding in a work zone is $300.
- Drive undistracted. Avoid using cell phones, mobile devices, adjusting the radio – even eating –while in work zones.
- Move over. Give workers room to safely complete their work.
- Know before you go. Get real-time information about traffic and road conditions at 511mn.org or get the free 511mn smartphone app at Google Play or the App Store.
- Be patient. Expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
- Do the zipper merge.
- Avoid making unnecessary lane changes.
- Never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones.
