MnDOT renovating, expanding Blue Earth Truck Station

MANKATO, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Transportation is renovating and expanding the Blue Earth Truck Station to create more space to accommodate modern snowplows and equipment, allowing MnDOT to perform more effectively and safely.

The project involves renovation of the existing 6,400 square-foot facility located at 38379 155th Street in Blue Earth, along with constructing a new 5,888 square-foot addition. The project also includes construction of new covered materials bins for salt and sand, a dedicated anti-icing brine generation room, new equipment wash bay and improvements to utilities, pavements and landscaping. The renovation project will also incorporate enhanced safety and energy-efficient upgrades, including new mechanical and electrical systems.

Construction is expected to be compete in spring 2026. During the renovation, staff at the Blue Earth Truck Station have temporarily relocated to 115 North Main Street in Blue Earth.

APX Construction is the general contractor on the $4,252,100 project.

The Blue Earth Truck Station presently houses three snowplows and six drivers, and services routes including Interstate 90 from Blue Earth to west of Alden, and Highway 169 from Elmore to Vernon Center.

MnDOT District 7 is comprised of more than 1,326 miles of state highway across 13 counties in southcentral Minnesota. There are 20 truck stations located throughout District 7 in Adrian, Blue Earth, Courtland, Fairmont, Gaylord, Jackson, Le Sueur, Luverne, Mankato, Mapleton, Montgomery, Sherburn, Sleepy Eye, St. James, St. Peter, Storden, Waseca, Windom, Wells and Worthington.
