Toward Zero Deaths focuses on zero fatalities and reducing serious injuries on our roads
What: Even one traffic death is too many. South Central Minnesota Toward Zero Deaths workshop partners discuss crash facts, complete streets and innovated strategies. How can they work together to reduce traffic deaths and serious injuries on South Central Minnesota roadways?
When: Monday, May 19, 2025, 8:30 a.m.-3:15 p.m.
Where: The Venue, 1850 Madison Ave., Mankato, Minn.
Why: Since TZD started in 2003, traffic-related deaths have declined by 27 percent through 2024.
Working together on traffic safety efforts is crucial to drive road fatalities to zero. Changing our traffic safety culture and dangerous driving behaviors is key to keeping everyone safe on our roads.
Who: More than 70 regional traffic safety stakeholders will attend the South Central Minnesota Regional TZD workshop, representing law enforcement, engineering, education, emergency medical and trauma services as well as local leaders. Hosted by Minnesota Departments of Public Safety, Health and Transportation.

10:30 a.m. Charting Our Course: Regional Action Planning for Strategic Success — Break down key
regional objectives and brainstorm practical solutions to drive success in our local efforts.
11:15 a.m. From Urban to Rural: Strengthening Traffic Incident Management in Minnesota —This session will cover the key components of Traffic Incident Management including the role of coalitions, effective communication, and upcoming training.
12:30 p.m. Exploring the Impacts of Mental Health on our Roadways — Nationally, 45 percent of repeat DWI offenders have a mental health disorder. Hear from panelists about what can be done.
1:30 p.m. AI: The Future, Rewritten – Beyond Imagination, From Code to Cognition — This session explores how AI is transforming industries like public safety, education, healthcare, and engineering. We’ll highlight AI’s ability to improve decision-making, fix broken systems, and drive meaningful change in daily operations.
