Highway 93 Henderson project pauses for winter
MANKATO, Minn. – The second year of construction on the three-year Highway 93 Henderson project has wrapped up for the winter, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
This year’s construction included completion of the Rush River Bridge, placement of rip rap (rock) below the new overflow bridge, levee and watermain work, installation of centerline culvert, and erosion control preparation for the winter.
Work scheduled for 2026 includes finishing the overflow bridge, completing city utility installation, finishing floodwall, final grading, paving, signage, striping, and turf establishment.
Highway 93 has been closed since April 15, 2024, with traffic detoured to Highways 169 and 19. The project is expected to be complete in late 2026, although the schedule is subject to change depending upon weather and other unforeseeable circumstances.
The project includes:
- Raising Highway 93 approximately eight feet, placing it one foot above historic high-water events
- Reconstructing 3.6 miles of Highway 93 from Highway 169 to Elm St. in Henderson
- Replacing the Rush River Bridge
- Constructing an additional overflow bridge to allow for Rush River flood relief
MnDOT reminds motorists to avoid going around barricades or entering the construction area for safety.
S.M. Hentges & Sons was awarded the project with a bid of $30,606,833.65.
