It’s a go! I-94 closure in St. Paul is planned this weekend after previous delays due adverse weather conditions
ROSEVILLE, Minn. —With the promise of “balmier” winter weather this weekend, the city of St. Paul will move ahead with plans to close Interstate 94 east of downtown St. Paul this coming weekend. After two previous weekend closures were postpone due to extreme cold and wind, the city will close the interstate and set beams for the new Kellogg Blvd/3rd Street bridge the weekend of Friday, Feb. 6 through Sunday, Feb. 8. Both directions of I-94 will close from 10 p.m. Friday evening, Feb. 6 until 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 8. Beginning at 8 p.m. on Friday, there will be single lane closures in both directions of the interstate. The westbound lanes of the interstate will then fully close at 10 p.m. between Hwy 61 and Hwy 52/Lafayette Freeway followed by a full closure of the eastbound interstate at 10 p.m. from Hwy 52/Lafayette Freeway to Hwy 61.
The weekend closure will allow city of St. Paul construction crews to deliver and set beams for the new Kellogg Blvd./3rd Street bridge over the interstate east of downtown St. Paul. The Kellogg Blvd./3rd Street bridge closed July 24, 2024. The city of St Paul is replacing the bridge to address the need for a more reliable connection to the city that will accommodate people walking, biking, taking transit, and driving. The project is expected to be complete in the fall of 2027.
We appreciate your patience during this bridge project.
