I-394 closes this weekend between downtown Minneapolis and Highway 100
Feb. 27-March 2 closure will allow crews to remove Penn Avenue bridge deck; I-394 work continues through November
ROSEVILLE, Minn. — Interstate 394 between downtown Minneapolis and Highway 100 will be closed in both directions this weekend from 10 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27 to 5 a.m. Monday, March 2 as crews remove the Penn Avenue bridge deck, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
The I-394 detour uses I-94, I-694 and Highway 169. View detour map.
- Eastbound — north on Highway 169, east on I-694, east on I-94.
- Westbound — west on I-94, west on I-694, south on Highway 169.
The work is part of a MnDOT I-394 construction project that will continue through November, making important safety improvements and extending the life of more than 30 bridges and the highway.
All dates for the traffic impacts listed below are tentative and weather dependent.

- Westbound I-394 between downtown Minneapolis and Highway 100 in Golden Valley is reduced to two lanes using the E-ZPass lanes through mid-summer.
- E-ZPass lanes will operate as regular lanes — no tolls, and no carpool or transit option.
- Penn Avenue bridge over I-394 is closed through November.
- Westbound I-394 ramps to and from Penn Avenue are closed through mid-summer. View detour map.
- Westbound I-394 traffic will not be able to exit to Park Place Boulevard/Xenia Avenue, however the westbound exit ramp is still open for motorists coming from northbound and southbound Highway 100.View detour map.
- Downtown Minneapolis traffic entering westbound I-394 is reduced to one lane through mid-summer.
- Westbound I-94 entrance ramp to westbound I-394 is reduced to one lane through mid-summer.

About this project
MnDOT is repairing 34 bridges and ramps along I-394 and I-94 between downtown Minneapolis and Highway 100 in Golden Valley. This project includes maintenance of the Dunwoody Boulevard ramp, replacing the deck for the Penn Avenue bridge that crosses over I-394 and other improvements. Ongoing traffic impacts will be announced throughout the construction season.
Highway 12 project adds to traffic impacts
MnDOT is also improving three miles of Highway 12 between Wayzata and Minnetonka with a major pavement preservation project. Work will begin in early April, and motorists will experience lane reductions in each direction of Highway 12 between Shoreline Drive in Wayzata and I-494 in Minnetonka through November.
