I-494 in Bloomington, Richfield to close March 6-9 for bridge removal
ROSEVILLE, Minn. – Motorists traveling on Interstate 494 in Bloomington and Richfield will encounter a detour this weekend while crews demolish the 12th Avenue bridge over the interstate, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
I-494 will close in both directions between I-35W and Highway 77 from 10 p.m. Friday, March 6 through 5 a.m. Monday, March 9.
Motorists will be detoured via I-35W, Highway 62, Highway 77 and I-494.
As a reminder, 12th Avenue between East 78th Street and American Boulevard will close at 7 a.m. Thursday, March 5, through September as crews replace the 12th Avenue bridge, which was built in 1959 and has reached the end of its lifespan. Motorists should use Lyndale Avenue or Portland Avenue to cross I-494.
When the project is complete, the new 12th Avenue bridge will feature improved pedestrian access and crossings, along with wider sidewalks and shoulders.
All construction activities and traffic impacts are weather and schedule permitting and subject to change.
MnDOT urges motorists to always be attentive, drive with caution, and slow down in work zones where workers are present.
