I-394 construction in St. Louis Park begins March 30 between Louisiana Avenue and Xenia Avenue/Park Place
Work will extend and add new acceleration and deceleration lanes for eastbound traffic
ROSEVILLE, Minn. — The Minnesota Department of Transportation will begin work on March 30 for an Interstate 394 project in St. Louis Park that will close the eastbound I-394 ramp to Xenia Avenue/Park Place and continue the current Louisiana Avenue ramp closure to eastbound I-394. This project began in July 2025 and is scheduled to be completed in September.
The project adds new acceleration and deceleration lanes on eastbound I-394 to help motorists more safely enter and exit I-394 at both Louisiana Avenue and Xenia Avenue/Park Place. The project will also lengthen existing acceleration/deceleration auxiliary lanes on eastbound I-394 to and from Louisiana Avenue.
“Acceleration and deceleration lanes are a great addition to highways that give motorists a dedicated lane to reach safe speeds for merging or exiting,” said Tim Clyne, MnDOT Construction Engineer. “These auxiliary lanes ultimately support traffic flow and reduce congestion.”
I-394 in St. Louis Park traffic impacts
Motorists should be prepared for these key traffic impacts once work begins the morning of Monday, March 30:
- The ramp from Louisiana Avenue to eastbound I-394 is currently closed and will remain closed through September.
- The ramp from eastbound I-394 to Xenia Avenue/Park Place will be closed through September.
- Westbound Wayzata Boulevard on the south side of I-394 between Louisiana Avenue and Zarthan Avenue will be closed through September. This portion of the road will only be open for eastbound traffic.
- The ramp from eastbound I-394 to Louisiana Avenue will remain open but will have occasional lane closures.
All dates for the traffic impacts listed are tentative and weather dependent.

Nearby projects on I-394 and Highway 12 add to west metro traffic impacts
Motorists traveling on I-394 are also impacted by a significant construction project between Highway 100 and downtown Minneapolis, which began in late February.
Through mid-summer, the main westbound I-394 lanes are closed, with westbound traffic using the E-ZPass lanes. From mid-summer through November, the eastbound I-394 lanes will be closed, with eastbound traffic using the E-ZPass lanes. Crews are repairing and restoring more than 30 bridges across I-94 and I-394. Learn more and sign up for email updates at mndot.gov/metro/projects/i94-i394minneapolis.
A Highway 12 project from Wayzata to Minnetonka is scheduled to start in April that will add to the I-394 traffic impacts. This work will make important pavement repairs on a three-mile stretch of road and will result in lane reductions and ramp closures. This project is scheduled to be completed in November.
