Hwy 15 and Fort Road roundabout project in Klossner begins May 18

MANKATO, Minn. —Construction of a roundabout at the intersection of Hwy 15 and Fort Road in Klossner is expected to begin May 18, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

Preliminary tree clearing is expected to begin in early May with minimal traffic impacts. The intersection of Hwy 15 and Fort Road in Klossner will be closed starting May 18 for construction, with traffic detoured to Nicollet County Roads 15, 12 and 21. (Detour map attached)

The project includes constructing a single-lane roundabout at Hwy 15 and Nicollet County Road 5 (Fort Road) in Klossner to improve safety at this intersection, install lighting, and improve drainage.

MnDOT expects the roundabout in Klossner to be completed in late July, weather permitting. Schedules are subject to change depending upon weather and other unforeseeable circumstances. 

Hwy 111/Fort Road roundabout, north of Nicollet

MnDOT will also construct a single-lane roundabout at Hwy 111 and Nicollet County Road 5 (Fort Road), north of Nicollet later this summer. Work there will begin after the Klossner roundabout is finished. 

Project benefits, cost

Benefits of the project include improved traffic flow, lighting, drainage, and enhanced safety for motorists. R & E Enterprise of Mankato, Inc. was awarded the roundabouts project with a bid of $6,210,896.85.
Funding to construct both roundabouts was awarded from the High Risk Rural Roads program to improve safety at rural Hwy intersections.
