Highway 25 detour changes June 2 between Buffalo to Monticello
Work zone remains active through October
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The north end of the Highway 25 detour and closure between Buffalo and Monticello will shift as the new roundabout opens at County Road 37, the Minnesota Department of Transportation reports. The change takes effect Tuesday, June 2.
The Highway 25 closure will extend northward from John Ause Memorial Drive to County Road 106 (85th Street NE). Detour uses Highway 55 in Buffalo, County Road 12, County Road 37 NE through the new roundabout, County Road 117 (Edmonson Avenue NE) and School Boulevard in Monticello.
Access will be maintained and open for those who live, work or visit those within the closed work zone; however, motorists can expect segments of temporary hard closures at times. Drivers should follow local signage and plan for extra travel time.
To keep workers safe, follow these tips:
- Obey posted speed limits. The fine for speeding in a work zone is $300.
- Stay alert and avoid distractions.
- Move over and give crews space.
- Be patient and expect delays.
- Never enter a road closed with barriers or cones.
- Expect changing conditions, including lane shifts and equipment.
- Check www.511mn.org or the free app for real-time travel information.
In summer, crews will rebuild and recycle the road surface using Stabilized Full Depth Reclamation, which requires deep excavation and large equipment. The road will remain closed to through traffic until late October.
When all lanes reopen in fall 2026, the $11.4 million project will improve safety, drainage and ride quality along Highway 25.
