Transportation system resilience

What we know

Climate change impacts the way we build, operate, and maintain transportation infrastructure. A warmer and wetter Minnesota causes risks to our roads, bridges, culverts, and pipes.

Why this is important

Minnesota’s climate is getting wetter and warmer. Extreme weather is already disrupting the transportation system. Projections show more extreme precipitation is on the way.

2024 Resilience Improvement Plan

Resilience Improvement Plan cover
Download the executive summary (PDF)

Minnesota’s climate is changing. How states react to this change is an evolving process. We assessed potential changes in climatic conditions, potential transportation impacts from those changes and potential consequences for the system and for users. The Minnesota Resilience Improvement Plan (RIP) provides opportunities to make our transportation system more resilient to climate change using regional approaches to mitigate risk.
