About this project
MnDOT, in partnership with local project partners and stakeholders, is studying the Highway 45 and Highway 210 corridors in preparation for two resurfacing projects tentatively planned for 2035. The study area includes Highway 45 from I-35 south to Carlton and Highway 210 from just east of County Road 61 to 6th Street North in Carlton.
The study will look at the I-35/Highway 45 interchange, nearby intersections, and access points to improve safety, access and mobility for everyone using the corridor. Key issues include vehicle speeds, pedestrian crossings, trails, freight movement and interchange design.
Highways 45 and 210 run through the heart of Carlton, connecting neighborhoods, businesses, and recreation areas such as the Munger Trail and St. Louis River Trail. The study will identify and evaluate potential improvements to make travel safer and more comfortable for drivers, freight, walkers and bikers alike.
Community engagement activities will include public open houses, online comment opportunities, and focus groups with key stakeholders. The study will continue through late 2026.
