Hwy 14 Eagle Lake

Hwy 14/Blue Earth County Rd 56 Intersection

About this project

MnDOT is analyzed safety issues and opportunities at the Hwy 14 and Blue Earth County Rd (CR) 56 intersection in Eagle Lake. Safety improvements were made at three intersections on Hwy 14 in Eagle Lake in 2016, but the Hwy 14/CR 56 intersection continues to experience a high frequency of crashes.

MnDOT, Blue Earth County, and the City of Eagle Lake are partnering on a project, tentatively scheduled for 2022, to improve safety at the Hwy 14/CR 56 intersection. MnDOT developed three design alternatives and collected community input on them. Feedback received was considered as the project partners selected an alternative for the intersection, which is a Restricted Crossing U-Turn (RCUT, also referred to as a J-Turn).

In the fall of 2020, MnDOT installed additional pavement parkings on CR 56 to encourage motorists to stop closer to Hwy 14, which improves visibility for CR 56 traffic as they either cross or turn onto Hwy 14.
