Summary of work
MnDOT is planning for a potential future project to expand Highway 23 from west of Kandiyohi County Road 5 to Highway 71 southwest of Willmar.The project is currently in the data and survey collection phase. If this project moves forward, it would upgrade about 3.5 miles of Highway 23 from a two-lane road to a four-lane highway. Additional work would include realigning the entrance/exit ramps to properly connect with the new eastbound lanes, installing new guardrails to meet current safety standards, inspecting and replacing drain tile crossings as needed, and constructing stormwater treatment ponds.
