About the project
Project summary
MnDOT has received funding through the Minnesota Legislature's Corridors of Commerce program to build an interchange at the intersection of Highway 23 and Highway 9 in New London.
MnDOT plans to build the interchange, working with Kandiyohi County to realign County Road 40.
Traffic impacts
Starting in 2027, construction will take place in stages through 2028. Road closures and detours will occur as each stage begins, and we will share updates to keep drivers informed throughout the project.
Construction stage 1 (PDF)
During stage 1 of construction, drivers can anticipate minimal traffic impacts.
Construction stage 2 (PDF)
Beginning in stage 2 of construction, the existing County Road 40 east/south connection to Highway 23 will be permanently closed during and after construction of the new cul-de-sac and interchange.
County Road 40 Detour route (PDF)
Drivers should use the detour to reach Highway 23, with the reverse route guiding traffic back to County Road 40.
County Road 40 west/north of Highway 23 will remain open and will be part of the Highway 9 access route.
Construction stage 3 (PDF)
Traffic will be temporarily shifted from the westbound lanes to the eastbound lanes of Highway 23 to accommodate construction activities.
Construction stage 4 (PDF)
Once the bridge is complete, the new County Road 40 east/south connection to Highway 23 will open at the bridge.
