Hwy 5 will be reduced from four lanes to three lanes between the intersection of McKnight Rd./Minnehaha Ave. E. and Lakewood Dr./Stillwater Ave. E. in Maplewood. The new road will be one lane in each direction with a dedicated two-way left turn lane in the middle. This project will slow traffic and improve safety along the road.

Summary of work

  • Rebuild Hwy 5 from four to three lanes
  • Replace signals and add accessible curbs at the intersections of Hwy 5 at McKnight Rd./Minnehaha Ave. E and Hwy 5 at Lakewood Dr./Stillwater Ave. E.
  • Remove free right turns at the intersections of McKnight Rd./Minnehaha Ave. E. and Lakewood Dr./ Stillwater Ave.
  • Construct new trail on the east side of Hwy 5 within the project area
  • Improve drainage at intersections of McKnight Rd./Minnehaha Ave. E. and Lakewood Dr./ Stillwater Ave. and build ponds to treat runoff water from the newly constructed trail
  • Remove existing pavement markings and place a new wearing surface and restripe
  • Pave Lakewood Dr. at the intersection with Hwy 5
