Community engagement
What we’ve heard
This spring and summer, we did public outreach on the I-94/22nd Ave. South bicycle and pedestrian bridge to understand its current use, user experience, and desired potential improvements for the bridge. Input was collected through in-person events and an online survey.
Key takeaways
- Desire for the bridge to be widened and turns on the bridge to be less sharp and steep.
- Desire for better visibility, including clearer sightlines, both on the bridge approaches to see oncoming bicycles and pedestrians, and to better see across the bridge to the adjacent street.
- Some support for shifting the bridge or bridge approaches to align with 22nd Ave., noting that 22nd Ave. is a southbound 1-way for the block north of the bridge.
- Desire for bridge amenities such as greenery and lighting.
- Concerns about personal safety on and near the bridge, with many commenting that it currently feels isolated.
Engagement snapshot
- 1 public meeting
- 5 pop-up events at Augsburg University
- A few additional pop-up events at businesses near the bridge and at Merwyn Triangle Park
- 140 interactions at in-person events
- 144 survey responses
