Highway 23 and Highway 71 left-turn lane project begins April 14

WILLMAR, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Transportation will begin a project to construct left-turn lanes near Raymond and Svea beginning April 14. A left-turn lane will be constructed for both east and westbound traffic at Highway 23 and County Road 1, northeast of Raymond. Also, a left-turn lane will be constructed for both north and southbound traffic at Highway 71 and County Road 3 near Svea.

Travel impacts

A detour will be in place for the duration of the project at each site (see maps below).
Raymond will have separate detours for semis and vehicles. Semis will be routed to County Road 5 and Highway 7. Vehicles will be routed to County Road 5, County Road 3, and 135th Street Southwest.

Svea will have one detour for all traffic, which will be routed to Highway 23, County Road 5, and Highway 7.

Work will take place at both locations at the same time, and the project is expected to be completed by June 28. The schedule is subject to change depending on weather and other unforeseeable circumstances.

Central Specialties, Inc., is the primary contractor, and the project cost is approximately $2.18 million.
