  • Be alert to lane shifts, shoulder closures and slow moving trucks entering/exiting work areas:
  • Local access open along Hwy 210; however, expect changes, follow signs:
    • Hwy 25 access open to/from 10th Ave. NE

Note: CenterPoint Energy is closing city streets in east Brainerd to complete underground gas line work. This includes periodic lane closures on Hwy 210 near SE 13th St./Gillis Ave.

Week of May 11-18

Crews will close Hwy 210 and begin building the two new roundabouts in the mall segment (PNG).

Motorists

  • Hwy 210 will be one lane in each direction, 24/7, and detoured around the closed work area in east Brainerd
    • Use Tenth Ave. NE and Hwy 25. Detour/work zone map (PNG)
    • A temporary signal will operate at Tenth Ave. NE and Hwy 25.
    • Expect delays; consider alternate routes or traveling during off-peak hours.
    • Brainerd is open. Local access to the mall area/Mill Ave. via Fourth Ave. NE and E St. NE
  • Truck detour: Co. Rd. 3 closed at Hwy 210 (PNG) Follow road signs to/from Co. Rd. 3, Hwy 210, Hwy 25. Turn radius tight, please use truck detour for semi-trailer/longer vehicles, including recreational vehicles pulling campers or long trailers.

About this project

MnDOT will reconstruct and improve the Washington St. (Hwy 210) through Brainerd from Baxter Dr. to Pine Shores Rd. in 2026 and 2027.

Hwy 210

  • Reconstruct (mall, railyard, downtown, bridge segments) or resurface (east and west segments) the road
  • Reconstruct curbs, gutters, raised medians and storm sewers
  • Update signal systems
  • Remove signal systems at Mill Ave. and 4th Ave. NE
  • Realign and improve access at the Hwy 210 and Hwy 25/Mill Ave., includes two roundabouts
  • Upgrade city utilities beneath the road
  • Upgrade pedestrian sidewalks and approaches and reconstruct/connect the Cuyuna Lakes Trail
  • Update the Mississippi River bridge
